Saints Peter and Paul Cemetery Association Rules & Policies

Saints Peter and Paul Cemetery Policies and Rules Effective September 1, 2022

FLOWERS & DECORATIONS
  1. All flowers and decorations placed around markers or monuments must be placed in a proper container (i.e., vases). Any decoration placed on the ground will be removed prior to grass cutting and trimming. All decorations not in a proper container will be removed.
  2. No glass containers, paper containers, mulch or shepherd poles will be permitted. They will be removed immediately. These items create a danger to the person who is cutting and trimming the grass as well as visitors.
  3. Removal of holiday decorations will be determined by the grass cutting schedule and will only remain on the graves for a maximum of thirty (30) days.
MONUMENTS
  1. All monuments, stones, and markers must be approved by the cemetery association. No homemade markers are permitted in the cemetery; they will be removed immediately and placed near the chapel for pick up or disposal.
  2. Monuments must be in granite, bronze, or marble. There will be no exceptions.
  3. Touching, sitting, or leaning on any monument is not recommended.
  4. Saints Peter and Paul Cemetery Association, board members, and employees are not responsible for damage to monuments, markers, or stones caused by the ordinary care of the cemetery. The cemetery association, board members, and its employees are not responsible for any other accident which may occur on cemetery property.
  5. Cleaning and repairing of monuments or stones may only be authorized by the owner or cemetery board.
OTHER
  1. Please place decorations as close to the holidays as possible: removal is determined by the mowing schedule.
  2. Planting of trees, shrubs, or flowers on the cemetery grounds is strictly prohibited without the approval of the board.
  3. Any questions regarding these rules or policies can be brought to the attention of the board or any board member. (All board members serve on a volunteer basis.)
  4. Cemetery hours are from daylight to dusk. The cemetery closes at dusk, and anyone found on the grounds will be reported to the City of Reading Police Dept. for trespassing.
  5. Persons under the age of eighteen (18) must be always accompanied by an adult.

SPPC was founded as a Roman Catholic cemetery but is no longer affiliated with the local parish or the Archdiocese of Cincinnati and accepts all burials or cremains. It remains an active cemetery with open lots available for purchase.
